Strength Training For Women
Strength training is a common way to build strength and to increase the size of your skeletal muscle. For a woman 40+ it’s a very important element because stronger muscles develop a stronger heart and a stronger immune system. It also helps to control weight and offers protection against osteoporosis, a major disease which often occurs after menopause.
The importance of weight lifting for women should not be underestimated. When done properly a woman 40+ can develop a lean, shapely youthful looking body and it is now recognized to be an essential part of any fitness regimen
The biomechanical system of women is different to that of a man and it is NOT possible for a woman to look like Arnie. Your physiological make-up and hormone structure is completely different. Men are typically stronger than women thus generate more force and men also produce ten times more testosterone than women.
Testosterone helps in increasing muscle size. Thus, the concept is very clear that a woman who has more testosterone may have a greater strength and power development than a woman with less testosterone. And you must remember that at 40-50+ your hormones levels have lowered and it would be virtually impossible to get ‘too big’… it is important to do strength training to help stimulate your growth hormones. You must do strength training for at least 30 minutes, twice a week.
It is the quality of training that will give you the best results and it is important to consult with a fitness expert before starting your exercise program.

It is best to start with strength development and the important thing is to learn the proper technique of weight lifting because proper technique will prevent injury and give you better results. Once your body has developed the necessary base strength and you know the correct technique then you can start shaping your body. Strength training develops strong muscles and strong muscles use energy, burn more fat, move more nutrients to your cells, help keep your body clean and hey, they look better.
